TORONTO - Manager John Gibbons is shuffling his struggling starting rotation through the early part of the week. J.A. Happ will pitch Mondays series finale against the Oakland Athletics. Todd Redmond will be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and pitch Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox. Josh Johnson, who was scheduled to pitch on Monday, moves to Wednesday. Esmil Rogers will return to the bullpen. Got it? First, Johnson: The big right-hander experienced tightness in his right forearm during his most recent start, a 7-2 win over the Seattle Mariners last Tuesday. "During the game it got a little tight but it was no big deal," Johnson told TSN.ca. "Woke up the next day and it was pretty sore and then it just kind of stayed sore. (Saturday) and (Sunday) its been feeling much, much better." Johnson has made minor mechanical adjustments in an effort to better stay on top of his pitches. He wasnt sure if the adjustments were the reason for his discomfort. He insists the issue isnt serious. "No panic," said Johnson. Happ will throw on regular rest, a luxury afforded him and the ballclub by last Thursdays off day. Following Mondays start, Happ will leave the team to attend his grandfathers funeral. The Blue Jays dont have to make a formal roster move on Redmond until Tuesday. One option would be to place Happ on the bereavement list, which would require him to miss a minimum of three games, irrelevant given that hes a starting pitcher who works every fifth day. Rogers went 2-5 with a 5.48 ERA in 13 starts. His problems have spiked of late. Rogers has allowed 22 runs (20 earned) in his last three starts. With 96 2/3 innings pitched this season, Rogers is well beyond his previous career high set in 2011 when he threw 83 innings in 18 appearances (13 starts) for Colorado. 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHRISTIE PITS RIOT Many thanks to the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs for inviting me to be part of Sunday mornings media softball game at Christie Pits. The event marked the 80th anniversary of the Christie Pits riot. The incident occurred on August 16, 1933, after a playoff baseball game between the predominantly Jewish Harbord Playground and St. Peters. A group of Nazi sympathizers descended on the park and displayed a swastika. Later, when confronted, a large fight broke out which grew to include about 10,000 people and lasted for six hours. Joe Johnson, Marcus Thornton, and Mason Plumlee each added 10 points for the Nets, who snapped a six-game losing streak in Denver. The Nets hadnt won in the Mile High City since a 112-102 victory on Jan. 27, 2007. Randy Foye had 15 points to lead Denver, which has lost four in a row and nine of 10. Brooklyns 7-foot centre Jason Collins, the NBAs first openly gay player appearing in his third game since being signed to a 10-day contract, was given a round of applause from the crowd when he entered the game for the first time with 8:02 left. Collins finished with three points. Before the game, Collins said he planned to meet afterward with the family of Wyoming college student Matthew Shephard, who was tortured and murdered in 1998 because he was gay. Collins wears his No. 98 jersey in Shepards honour, and he said during a pregame news conference that the chance to meet Dennis and Judy Shepard was "one of those cool treats in life." The Nets were coming off a 104-80 loss at Portland the night before, their biggest loss since a 47-point defeat to Memphis on Dec. 13, 2003. But they quickly put that behind them with a runaway win of their own in a game in which they never trailed. Pierce scored 11 points in the third quarter, helping the Nets extend their lead to 38 points. Brooklyn took an 89-56 advantage into the fourth quarter and played reeserves for most of the rest of the game.dddddddddddd The offensive struggles by Denver, which was without leading scorer Ty Lawson (left rib fracture) for an eighth consecutive game, were epitomized in the first quarter. The Nuggets were held to a season-low eight points on 3-for-18 shooting from the floor (16.7 per cent) and trailed by as many 31 points in the second quarter before managing to get within 23 at the half. It got bad enough for the Nuggets that the crowd, after seeing Timofey Mozgov and Kenneth Faried both miss dunks in the first quarter, cheered derisively when Mozgov hit a layup early in the second. The Nets took advantage of the Nuggets horrible start to pull out to 59-36 halftime lead. Each of 10 Nets players seeing action to that point scored at least once. Denver ended up with as many turnovers in the first quarter as points. NOTES: The Nuggets were also without F Wilson Chandler, who was held out of the game because of sore right knee. ...
